I have a lot of the Antarctica travel ad parody strips written up but then I just didn’t like seeing them in place of the comics and thought of doing away with them. It may just be that I missed seeing Wally & Osborne those days so I was considering adding them into the scenes if I were to keep them, but still leaning towards losing them. Then several readers wrote in and said they liked the ad comics… so they are back, and will at least contain some characters if not Wally & Osborne.
Besides, immortal snowmen is a picture of heart and beauty. It’s so sad seeing snowmen melt away. Your little friends made by you. Next snowman I’m building is definitely going to be in Antarctica. 😉
Guiness World Records: Antarctica (Part Five – Finale)
Today’s first record is fastest swimming bird. Adelies are pretty fast, but taking this record is the Adelie’s “bigger brother”, the Gentoo Penguin. They look much like the Adelie, but are a little larger and have a white spot on the head that wraps down over the eyes. They tend to hang out a little more north (warmer areas) of the sub-Antarctic islands than the Adelie. They have been clocked at 40kmph (25mph). A Gentoo hasn’t appeared in the comic yet. The final record goes to the Emperor Penguin. We’ve seen them in the comic when Wally delivered a Leopard Seal to their colony. Also the “kids” running the juice stand are Emperor chicks (note the white circles around eyes, the chicks in Max’s “class” were Adelies). The Emperor gets the record for the longest bird fast by going up to 134 days without food while it courts a female, incubates the egg while she travels to sea to feed and then waits for her return.
