Yep, I’m happy to say this will be the last On the Rocks comic strip… in the first book collection. Sorry to give away the ending. π
There are a lot of these signs set up in Antarctica, arrows pointing in the direction of cities with the distance to them, usually to cities from the countries working at the station they are located near. I tried to come up with a good variety of cities representing countries doing research in Antarctica. For distance I chose the San Martin research station as it is about half way down the Antarctic Peninsula. I had been planning on doing a comic like this for a while, and ending the first collection with it seemed fitting, the first strip also with a sign and the two walking away from it.
So anyway, now to get laying out this so-called book collection. I considered taking a break (between collections), but I kind of did already last week so tomorrow we will begin a whole new series of adventures and hijinks that are in store for Wally and Osbourne.
African Glaciers Melting Too
Yeah, Africa has glaciers too, crazy eh? Right along the Equator even. Not for long though, we’ve seen a lot of news about melting ice in the Arctic and Antarctic, but even Africa is losing ice. In fact, scientists say that in another 20 years those African glaciers could be gone. Read more from the Associated Press and Nature.com.

“Yep, IΓ’β¬β’m happy to say this will be the last On the Rocks comic stripΓ’β¬Β¦ in the first book collection.”
Please don’t ever do that to me again. My heart skipped a beat.
Reminds me of the last Calvin & Hobbes strip.
Dude… That was MEAN! This is one of three daily comics that make my day, well, a little more bearable… You scared the cr*p out of me.
i almost fainted. come back!
Did anybody spot that the NEW YORK signpost is the only one in miles??? Those crazy non-metric Americans!
You missed Bulgaria π
I mean seriously. We have 2 bases if memory serrver, a whole island, there are like 100 important points in Antarctica ( Mountains, geograpical stuff like that ) named, found and mapped by us. We might not be rocket scientists ( well a Bulgarian invented the first computer ) but we’ve got something π
Dude, ya had me scared for a minute there.
Anyway, awesome comic, vary fitting comic to end the collection, can’t wait for the next one!
A Bulgarian invented the first computer! Are you serious! I love Bulgaria all of a sudden!
I thought the first computer was invented by the British WWII codebreakers at Bletchley Park. Of course, we have only their word for it because it was destroyed after the war and all the top secret plans were burnt .
Sorry for the scare, heh.
Alexander, sorry to miss Bulgaria. I actually had to ponder a long time picking countries because I know I have a reader base spread across them and I hated leaving many out, as many have projects going on in Antarctica. So I tried to pick the major recognizable cities that were spread out geographically across the globe, since that was more the point of the comic. A couple major ones I missed as far as having a strong Antarctic presence were Norway and Chile.
Phew…..you had me stumped there for a secind….nice scare. I read your comics regularly and it’s nice to know there’s more to come. Keep up the great work , Tyler.
Thanks Lil! π
just can say what everbody said: you scared the s**t out of me. i really love this comic. i just cant stop laughing when i read them. those are some awesome comic-characters. maybe oyu could do another “water ballon” strip. i love those
Tyler, Tyler, Tyler, tsk, tsk, tsk.You don’t do that my dear friend. You like walking, don’t you? Well, then don’t scare us like that again, or even think about ever stop writing the strip, never, ever, ok? Unless all of a sudden you feel the crazy need never to walk again and decide to have your legs broken in the most painful way. π
I kid, I kid, but this is what happens, when I’m watching The Sopranos, while reading the 1st line of your strip, like all of a sudden Tony Soprano had taken control of me. Maybe he could do something about global warming and glacial meltdown.
I haven’t written on a long time, but congratulations on the book. I’ll be one of the first in line to buy it. Any special plans? Like some autographed copies for us, your most faithful readers? π
Maybe you could throw in a t-shirt of Osbourne in his sombrero and li’l sarape, I would have bought one a long time ago had I seen one. BTW, I don’t think I ever thanked you for the “Cowboys” wallpaper, simply awesome.
keep up the good work my good man, it’s nice to see that the quality of the comic keeps going up, instead of down, like so many others, and once again thank you for the countless hours of good laughs.
Lykaios
I think I went blind for two seconds when I read “the last On the Rocks comic stripΓ’β¬Β¦ in the first book collection” if you ever do that again and I really do go blind, I will sue you…when I’m older.
So like everyone said i got scared for a second too.
So if there was a sign like this one right at the south pole, they would all point north, right?
my brother about killed me wen i wasn’t worried.
Heh. I Just wanted to make sure everyone was alive after a quiet week around here last week. π
There’s no end in sight, On the Rocks is just getting started.
Tyler! Sheeessh… That was a nice little scare! Your comic is one of the best out there, and considering how many webcomics are out there, that’s saying something…
LMAO @ Cisco’s comments…. “Bear”able, huh? Was that a pun?
Yeah, I got all freaked out when I read the title.
I was thinking that now all I have to read are the old ones!
I was prepared to be all sad!
I was thinking that how sad it would be if there was never another On the Rocks
comic ever again! What would I do?!
I LOVE this comic! I send it to all my friends every day!
Then I started reading the commentary.
Oh.
Yay!!! :-)))
There will still be comics!!!!!
Yay!!! :-)))
Never EVER do that again!
It freaks everyone out.
oops I didn’t realize that my smilies would turn into Wallys……
Now they look really weird…….
Oh well…….
π
that really scared me, please dont do that again! but great comic! π
Just had a look at the store, you definately need either a mexican osbourne in the sombrero or wally in his box armour being hit in the do dads on a t shirt!!! Do it, do it now!!
Nice job on putting the distance to New York in miles instead of kilometers. I’m American, myself, but I think that we’re generally stupid….ahhh, the glory of emigration….
Thanks for the comic π I’ve loved it since Scott Kurtz at PVP posted the link.
I didn’t believe it at first I was like wait how could that be the end it just started… but since the website wasn’t working at the time i had to view it from my livehournal and was like mabye π
Tyler, are you ever going to do guest strips?
Don’t do that f**king s**t to us again! that was crazy! Anyway, nice one! π
Why don’t you make games on the site? That’ll be cool! π
WWWWWWWWWWWWWWWOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
OOOOOOOOO
OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!
Make it more clear that you’re going to the next book next time. Don’t freak me out like that. π
I was really freaked out with what you said so could you please not do that again?
Mumbai ! Yayy !
I hope Wally and Osborne will go around the world soon.
