I know a lot of people like the water balloon recurring gag. It keeps getting harder and harder to top them, but they are still fun.

So, just when we thought that would be it for the water balloon gags, a new twist arises. It was one of those random unlasting moments where you just suddenly have superhuman reflexes for a moment. This time Wally didn’t even worry about it, but he did call out “frozen” water balloon. Maybe that validated it, as long as you call it. Like perhaps “hey, I’m throwing the equivalent of a heavy rock right at you” gives total fair warning.
If you are new, water balloon gags are one of the recurring themes around here. If you go to the Archives you can actually sort the comics by category, and view all the water balloon ones. If you have an iPod you can download them for it, although, looks like I need to add this new one now.
Gay Penguins Won’t Take Wives
I don’t make this stuff up, this is the news! A German zoo has 10 male Humboldt penguins, six of them have paired up with each other. Zoos can’t take penguins out of the wild, only injured ones that cannot make it back out on their own, or ones that have been bred in captivity. Anyway, Sweden sent over some female penguins but they have not had much luck yet in mating. Apparently a gay rights group was actually upset about it, like they were trying to get the penguins to change their preference. That’s just silly, they are just trying to get the penguins to breed to have some baby penguins. I almost thought it was a joke article but you can go read it for yourself. Humboldt penguins live off the southern tip of South America, they have a white band across the head and a black one across the chest. They look like the African penguin or ones you will often see at zoo’s or in commercial spots. Their population is currently considered vulnerable, believed to be caused by humans over-fishing their habitat.

If you are on the internet much, you’ve no doubt seen the video clip or animated GIF of a penguin pushing another into the water. Well, here is the original clip, just one penguin that didn’t realize at what point the ice got too thin for walking.
Just when you thought there couldn’t be another “water balloon” gag strip. I wasn’t sure how to end this one since the last one Wally was running away and that seemed hard to top. First I did this the last frame with Wally sucking his thumb and had thought about doing him in the fetal position. It didn’t seem to work right though so I switched him to the expression you see now, which was actually the first plan for the last frame. I don’t know what I’ll do next, I’ll have to have Wally’s head explode or something. Maybe show him in a travel agency purchasing tickets to Switzerland.
Sorry about the late updates lately, or the late in the day updates. I’m going to try to get my schedule switched around so the comic for the day is on the page first thing in the morning for you. Also I’m switching the software that runs the comic, the new system should have some better features especially in the archiving department, all the comics will be named and searchable, and hopefully easier to find if you wanted to look up an old one, also you will be able to leave comments for specific strips. Hopefully have it up this week.
And so Wally’s obsession with nailing Osbourne with a water balloon continues to be a recurring gag here. If you’re new to the strip, or you just enjoy reminiscing, you might check out Wally’s first attempt here and his second attempt here. He’ll get it eventually. Probably see another week or two of single gags here and then we’ll have a couple more silly storylines. I know how you guys love your stories.
Being the water balloon comic was a lot of people’s favorite I thought it was time to do another one on the subject. Wally is really trying to pull it off, he really thinks the whole water ballooning someone idea is great, his execution of it in a frozen climate is just giving him trouble.
Antarctic Weatherman
Another thing giving some trouble is the South Pole Current Weather report. That report is from the Amundsen-Scott base (see picture) there at the pole. 
With such an extreme location and such extreme weather I can only imagine why it is offline a lot. It kind of looks bad having the error message there so often so I’m switching the current weather report to a base on the Antarctica Peninsula. Probably more fitting anyway since that’s more apt to be where Osbourne and Wally would be, somewhere along the coast there, the pole is 800 miles inland and does not support any wildlife. I might switch it around to a few of the different stations on the peninsula and see which one is the most stable, I’d like to use San Martin as, well, that’s my name and it seems to be a major center there, but it’s weather is offline right now.
Either way, looking at all the Antarctic weather reports, is making it feel really warm and cozy where I am.
Sometimes gags don’t go the way they were intended in Antarctica. Or at least not when Wally is trying to pull them off.
