I told you this small aircraft of a bird would be arriving in the comic. I wasn’t sure if I wanted to use a narrator at any point, but I decided to finally, think of it as clippings from Wally’s copy of Antarctica’s Big Book of Facts.

My Safe Return

Yes, I am back from my much needed vacation and I had a lovely time, thank you very much. As I mentioned I went by train, and it did not derail or even hit another train head on or anything like that. As a super added bonus, guess what movie they played on the train in the lounge car. The March of the Penguins. I kid you not, I finally got a chance to see the movie I’ve been talking about but not finding the time to see. What a way to kick off my break that was. And I must say that it was extremely well done, Morgan Freeman’s voice is so comforting, comfort you need to make it through this often heart wrenching film about the Emperor Penguins painstaking nine month project of brooding and raising their young.

Also I went last night and saw Wallace & Gromit In the Curse of the Were-Rabbit. What a great film that is, it was such a refreshing change from the 3D animated stuff. They just cannot mimmick the artsy organic feel of the Wallace & Gromit world. The sets were beautiful and the expressions and body language of the characters were the best and most animated I’ve ever seen them. Just watching them move was entertaining. As I mentioned a few weeks ago they played the short film in front of it starring the penguins from Madagascar. It is soon to be Christmas and one of the penguins sees that the… now get this… Polar Bear in the zoo is sad and he wants to get him something special. It had a few funny moments but overall it was kind of dissapointing. Wallace & Gromit was great though!

And Finally, I’m glad to be back. I’ve missed Wally & Osbourne just as much as you and am excited to get new strips back on the site. This week is kind of like… bird week, of the flying variety.

It’s gross. But it’s fact!

Adelie penguins build their nests with a circle of rocks. And outside that nest you will see a splattered ring of the evidence. Scientists have an Ig Nobel Prize Award for scientific achievements which cannot or should not be reproduced. Penguin pooh wins the area of Fluid Dynamics where they measure the actual pressure they launch that stuff out at. You can read more here. Thanks to Lee M for the link.

Two Weeks of Frozen Fun

I want to thank all the people that are coming to the site and reading the comic. Also much thanks to those that posted the encouraging comments in my forum and the other various forums that I’ve shared the comic in. It has been up for a week and I’m already having a lot of fun with it. It’s actually at two weeks worth of strips.

When I was creating the comic I wanted it to be big and in color. Not like the tiny black and white comics of the newspaper. It’s the web and such things are easily taken advantage of. However I really optimized it for 1024×768 resolution and higher. So if you are on 800×600, which is a lot fewer these days, then you are having to scroll the comics a bit. With the large format comics you are having to scroll a lot, just pretend they are infinite canvas comics. Seriously though, if you are a regular reader with only 800×600 then let me knowin the forum. If it is a real problem then perhaps I can have an alternate sized comic for those of you living in the ice age.

Also you will notice the regular South Pole weather updates to the right. It usually says that its -70� F and colder and that usually their is hail, wind or even ice crystals. I can only assume that is when crystals of air are actually freezing and dropping to the ground. So yeah, its cold there, and you can know just how cold by checking that update. It can make you feel warm and cozy at your little computer there. Many times you will see an error there, can only assume there would be communication and other equipment malfunction in such an environment. The south pole is near the center of the continent. Wally and Osborne hang near the coast as all the critters do where still the temperatures range from -20� F up to 20� F. And that’s in the summer. You’ll notice the temperature doesn’t seem to drop at night, that’s because the sun is up all day there in the summer.
