: Fresh Air
Nov 23, 2006

Ah yes, fresh air. Sometimes I have to remind myself to do that, get some fresh air. Too many hours in a little studio office at the computer or drawing table and you have to break away and get out in the fresh air a bit. It actually recharges you.

I Done Seen the Happy Feet

I saw Happy Feet the other day after I posted the comic. It was a lot of fun. It was interesting the way they did the animals, more realistic and true to actual form than the rest of the more cartoony styled animations of today. It had story and humor and music, lots of music in a Moulin Rouge sort of way. It was a penguin musical. Seeing the little penguins entertainingly dance around the screen really made me want to play with animation a bit with Wally & Osborne. Maybe some day.

National Geographic nerded it up (much like I would have) by comparing the movie with facts [ click here for the article ]. They didn’t seem to have much to disagree with though, they added that krill is a big part of the penguin diet in addition to fish (krill wasn’t mentioned in the movie) and also that penguins don’t really have a fear of humans, or are pretty much indifferent. In the movie it was more necessary for the story. Hopefully real life penguins will learn, they just haven’t been around us humans long enough in history yet.

Good one. It is weird though how the snow turned Wally’s orange scarf blue. ๐Ÿ˜ฏ

If that’s what stading in the doorway will do, I don’t want to be outside.

  2. Canadian Mooseman says:

lol, great comic. I have had my days laughs. That would really be cool if you could make animated shorts of wally and osborne. im not sure though. it would be neat anyways!

  13. OrAnGe JuIcE says:

I bought the Happy Feet sound track after I saw the movie at the IMAX. It was awesome because the one I went to was a dome, so you had a 180 degree view. The penguins looked HUGE!!

    P.S. hispanic adelines rule!!!! ๐Ÿ˜‰ ๐Ÿ˜ฎ :/ :>

  14. Penguin Guru says:

I like the third panel. How did Osborne get coffee when all the food is bad? See comic: http://wallyandosborne.com/2006/10/27/old-food/
HAPPY THANKSGIVING!!! Last Thanksgiving Tyler made a comic about Osborne being a Thanksgiving Penguin not Turkey.

  15. Penguin Guru says:

How did he find his way back to the chair if the snow is blocking his eyes?

  16. Lee says:

One of the things I don’t like about winter is having to keep all the windows shut. The house gets stuffy and I keep getting headaches.

  17. zeel says:

funny but that third frame is cind of weird

  18. German Nightmare says:

Hehe, can you say “In your face?”

Man, got me scared for a second: that ice looks like Wally’s been facehuggered…

    Keep it up!!!

  19. Penguin Boy says:

I forgot to say somthing yesterday,HAPPY THANKSGIVING!

  20. Hannah says:

    hey people
I SAW HAPPY FEET AND IT ROCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
i’ve been waiting a year for it, and it was definately worth the wait.

“The Flipperbirds, (thats you) eat the fish. And the Flying Birds, (thats me) eat the Flipperbirds and the fish. So basically we eat a lot of fish!”
    -the Skua (Flying Bird)
For some reason I like that quote. I like a lot of quotes from it actually. And if you
didn’t figure it out, the Flipperbirds are penguins.
    I like this one too:

“Feel the feeling!! An enormous feeling! So enormous, it must escape, or you explode!”
    -Mrs. Astrakhan (Singing Teacher)
Well I could go on and on but I shall stop now.
Im going to see it in the IMAX sometime. It’ll be awesome.
    well byebye.
    PS-I like Wally’s blue scarf

  21. SportyBlonde! says:

    Time to defrost!

  22. Andrew says:

    His SCARF is blue

  23. Ferrety Penguin says:

i think it might be cold out..mabye

  24. OrAnGe JuIcE says:

Thats about as fresh as it gets!

  25. Flux says:

What’s the problem with his scarf being blue?

If you want logic: ice attached itself to it, and since water appears blue most of the time, why shouldn’t ice?

If you want an easy answer: it’s a comic for crying out loud, the penguin and the bear are talking, who cares about an orange scarf turning blue?

  26. Penguin Guru says:

Wait a second. Tyler, why should National Geographic be talking about Antarctic correctness? Weren’t they the ones who posted the commercial on T.V. with the penguins and polar bears hanging out, when in truth they live in seperate hemispheres? I don’t think they should be talking about movies being wrong then. Plus if they are that concerned about it being absoloutly correct, they have to remember it is a cartoon!
P.S. This comment dosn’t have anything to do with the comic, but has to do with the newsleter.

  27. Dorlaem says:

Wally starring as.. Doctor Freeze :p

  28. Hahahaha Great comic! I just found this website and it is awesome! ๐Ÿ™‚

I love Emperor Penguins so I will post facts for everybody in honor of the movie Happy Feet! ๐Ÿ™‚

    Did you know……..
A full-grown male emperor penguin weighs between 75 and 90 pounds.

If you have any questions……. just ask! ๐Ÿ™‚

  29. P.S.
Should I read all the comics before this one or are these all random??
    Sorry for taking up space!

  30. just_another_penguin_lover says:

I saw happy feet yesterday!! its sooooo cute!!!! And Emperor Penguin, you should go read all the ones before this to really get to know wally and osborne!! You’ll enjoy them!! Hannah i liked that part in the moive too! I would LOVE to see it in an IMAX but being in a little town we dont have those, oh well!

  31. zeel says:

p.s. hay Emperor Penguin things are oftin funyer do to sertin reacurin thems but you mis it if you dont reed in order but it isint nessisary.

p.p.s. thars a chat box on the right side of the scren

  32. Jai Inder Singh says:

    Allow me to translate.
Hey, it’s pretty funny, but Wally’s hair is pretty messed up. I think he should try to defrost it.
P.S. Hey, Emperor Penguin, things are often more funny due to certain recurring themes but you miss it if you don’t read the comics in order. It’s not exactly neccesary, but it helps.
P.P.S There’s a chat box on the right side of the screen

Seriously man, what ever happened to primary school? It used to be so cool. The first word I ever learned to spell was “Star.” From then on, I spelled everything else correctly as well. Ok, I won’t lie, not everything, but still, get an English teacher or something.

  33. Roi says:

Wow. Osborne found something to drink in the old shack!

  34. Again excellent comic Tyler. Emperor Penguin. I am pleased to meet you. Wally and Osborne is an enjoyable comic, but you must read them in order to get a real love for the comic. I suggest you read it from the beginning, or you will not understand reocuring gags like the water balloon strips or the Travel Ads. That is if Tyler posts anymore. I hope you enjoy the comics. Farewell.

BTW, this is me, Penguin Guru. I’m just changing my name.

  35. Athena says:

Oooooo! what’s he drinking though? maybe… melted ice? I mean surely he must have found a stove of some sort in the shack–I mean, umm, home. Then again, he wouldn’t be able to hold some of the stuff as he’s thumbless. plus, they wouldn’t need a bunk to sleep on would they? they could just dump a pile of snow on the floor. and even if osborne got uncomfortable, he might be able to find a razor or something to shave some of that fur off wally—No, do not think crazy thoughts!

  36. Athena says:

wait a minute… they can weigh up to 90 pounds?!? holy ****! that’s heavier than me! then again, i’m undersized. lol.

  37. Dorlaem says:

pounds.. hmm.. how many kilograms is that?
We use another metric system around here :p

Jai Inder Singh, please understand that there are a lot of people, people like me, which don’t have english as an native language… I normally spreak dutch, so have respect for those that try to get themselves understood.

ps. maybe you should try writing in dutch, then you’ll understand…

  38. Hannah says:

    hey Emperor Penguin,
I feel like trying be me.
I used to post penguin facts and my website is Happy Feet.
so, yeah maybe you’ll understand why i think this.

  39. Hannah says:

in my last comment i meant
    “ur trying to be me”
    not “trying to be me.”

  40. just_another_penguin_lover says:

Sorry for taking up space, but the chatbox isnt working for me…am i doing somthing wrong? i typed my name, message, and email, and pushed send, but nothings happening, so i have waited a couple days and my message has never showed up….im confused.

  41. Dorlaem says:

    hannah saves the day :p

  42. Sheena says:

Hey, how’d Wally’s scarf turn blue? :shock Never mind. I don’t think I want to know. :roll .

    Must…have…water…balloons! Help!…can’t…BREATHE!… *gasp* I’m okay, I JUST NEED WATER BALLOONS!!! ๐Ÿ™

  43. Sheena says:

    Meant ๐Ÿ˜ฏ

    and ๐Ÿ™„

  44. Zack says:

hey tyler, a water balloon gag would be good. Also, wat if there was a juvie one and they were selling radios? that would be funny ๐Ÿ™‚ comon tyler lets haev one of those

  45. Zack says:

    have*

    i cant spell ๐Ÿ™„

  46. Wally P. Bear says:

    ๐Ÿ™‚ :.( |:( ):(

  47. Sorry Hannah…. I didn’t mean to steal the fact thing. ๐Ÿ™ I am new here and I didn’t know.
I would still like to post facts though.

    Did you know….

A full-grown female emperor penguin weighs between 60-7- pounds.

Sorry that almost the same. I’m kinda busy and all. ๐Ÿ™

  48. Jai Inder Singh says:

    Dorelaem,
I understand because English is a second language to me as well. Notice how my grammar and spelling is fairly impeccable. I don’t speak dutch, but I am fluent in Spanish. You may also notice, if we compare your English to mine and “Zeel’s,” it looks a lot more like mine. Your grasp of the language seems fairly the same as everyone else’s. In all truth I agree, it really doesn’t matter, but I just kind of like to make fun of people sometimes anyway…and I am a grammar and spelling police. I don’t mind a misplaced comma or two, but stuff like that is hard for me to ignore. Tell you what though, instead of making fun, I’ll just translate into grammatical excellence. Deal? Deal.

  49. Dorlaem says:

maybe he’s from poland or something? the level of english spoken there is not very high…

    allright, deal

Emperor penguin, can you tell me about the antartics itself instead?

  50. Umm…. was Osborne drinking anything in that mug or was it just empty?
Oh yeah I saw Happy Feet too it made me laugh and cry.
