Welcome To Antarctica!

June 27th, 2005 | by Tyler Martin
Welcome To Antarctica!

Hello and welcome to the brand new website of the brand new comic: On the Rocks. As you may have noticed, the comic takes place in Antarctica. It stars an unlikely couple, a penguin and a polar bear. Now, naturally polar bears only live in the arctic, north of the equator, and penguins only live [...]

Meet Wally

Meet Wally

Here we meet one of our main characters. Wally. A Polar Bear all the way from the North Pole, where Polar Bears come from. How did he get to Antarctica? We don’t know that right now, but the locals might see him as a bit of a inadvertent menace.

Meet Osborne

Our other main character. A cute little awkward penguin named Osborne. A little loner penguin that befriended Wally on his arrival to this distant land. Osborne dreams of greatness someday but for now he’ll have to stumble over the obstacles that everyday life in Antarctica provide him.

Water Balloon

Sometimes gags don’t go the way they were intended in Antarctica. Or at least not when Wally is trying to pull them off.

Osborne’s quest for perfection and greatness even carries over into little things. I’d really like to know if that drawbridge works.

Antarctica Beachlife

Antarctica Beachlife

The beaches in Antarctic are a little different. They are basically ice beaches except for some areas in summer that the dark soil and rock see water. Though weary of Orcas (Killer Whales), its not so much penguins but seals on beaches that see this scenario. Its just a hard life here and we’re going [...]

Thin Ice Skating

Thin Ice Skating

When I was a kid I use to go and ice skate on rivers and ponds. Sometimes playing hockey with friends. I had always been really careful when I’d hear the cracking sounds, or see the darker spots in the ice. I’d heard stories of people falling through the ice before and would practice in [...]

Whale Storm

Whale Storm

When I first did this strip it almost looked like they were underwater watching a whale swim by. But that is in fact a Blue Whale being blown across the land right by them. Judging by his expression I think he also finds it a bit awkward.

Book of Facts: Penguin Brains

July 7th, 2005 | by Tyler Martin
Book of Facts: Penguin Brains

I thought Wally could use some help getting use to this strange new land. Enter Antarctica’s Big Book of Facts. This is a fictitious book, but a great way to put stuff about Antarctica into the comic and use in future strips. Not that this comment is entirely true, penguin brains are just a bit [...]

Book of Facts: Projectile Excrement

Book of Facts: Projectile Excrement

It’s gross. But it’s fact!
Adelie penguins build their nests with a circle of rocks. And outside that nest you will see a splattered ring of the evidence. Scientists have an Ig Nobel Prize Award for scientific achievements which cannot or should not be reproduced. Penguin pooh wins the area of Fluid Dynamics where they measure [...]
